email management I wrote previously about SpamAssassin and turning on a spam box. Say you gets tons of spam and want to just delete it all automatically instead of sending it to a spam box that you never review.

It is easy to set up using cPanel’s menu driven command building tool. Here’s how. Follow the Mail link. Select E-mail Filtering. Select Add Filter. In the menu item that says Filter, use the drop-down menu to select SpamAssassin Spam Header. At the drop-down menu after the word that, select begins with. In the blank space, enter Yes. For destination, enter Discard.

Thus, you will have built a rule that says “Filter SpamAssassin Spam Header that begins with Yes and discard it.

Now, you will never see any emails that SpamAssassin tags as spam. This is a somewhat radical step that you need to think about before doing. SpamAssassin (like all spam detectors) will incorrectly tag “good” emails as spam. These will be deleted. You should run a spam box and review your spam before blackholing it.

I do use this blackhole technique on some sites. I bought one domain whose previous owner appears to have been a spammer. I get nothing but spam and tons of it. Blackholing it made my life easier.
